::Road Safety Tips::

Remember that you have to share the road with other people, bicycles, motorcycles, cars and buses. This is why everybody should follow basic rules of road safety.

When crossing the road, stick to the place where there is a signal, traffic policeman or zebra crossing. Otherwise, choose a place where you can see cars and buses coming from far  away. When crossing, also check whether vehicles are coming from side roads.  Cross safely and promptly and do not spend extra time in the middle of the road. When walking on the side of the road, walk on the right side of the road,  so that you can see the traffic coming towards you. Walk single file or at most two by two. If you are walking with a small child, hold hands and keep him or her on the side away from traffic. If a group of you are walking together, keep to one side of the road when a vehicle is passing. Do not split up into two groups and force the vehicle into a narrow space. Do not do anything unexpected on the road. For example, do not head to one side when a car is coming and suddenly change to the other side. You may escape being hit, but the vehicle may hit someone else in avoiding you. Do not stand behind a reversing vehicle.  When you get off any bus and need to cross the road, wait till the bus has gone so that you can see traffic on both sides of the road. Do not games using balls or hide and seek or chase each other on the roadsides. Do not play near parked buses and lorries. When a driver starts the  vehicle, there is no way for him to see all sides. When riding a bicycle, keep to the left and stop at red lights. When  crossing the road, especially a busy one, get off the bicycle and walk across. Do not drive even a moped without having earned your licence. It is illegal  and unsafe for you and for others on the road. You may know how to change gears and steer, but it takes years of practice to understand road rules and make a quick decision in an emergency. Develop a good road culture and discipline.
